The Magnificat service at Park Avenue is a wonderful service of art, dance, singing, poetry and all as a tribute to Mary, who accepted God’s blessing of Jesus with joy. During the service there was liturgical dance; the children performed a song; there was poetry performed; as well as scriptural drama, and I did a live painting. It is truly a wonderful service.
I was so honored to paint this rendition of Mary during the service. In the beginning of the painting the form of mother and child on the canvas I wrote the word "wait" on the left side where the baby is outlined. During the course of the service I filled in the left side and in the end of the service I wrote "Emmanuel," which means God with us on the left side to remain in the finished piece.
